The “Ashinaga Africa Initiative” aims to offer higher education opportunities to 20 outstanding students from Sub-Saharan African countries each year, including some of the most disadvantaged regions in the world, empowering them to become future leaders in their home countries.

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) is an international leadership program designed to nurture the next generation of leaders who will contribute to the growth and development of Sub-Saharan Africa.

AAI Scholars are students who have lost one or both parents and are dedicated to returning to Sub-Saharan Africa to drive positive change, innovation, and progress.

The AAI offers full financial support for international university degrees, along with leadership training and guidance, aimed at developing Scholars into compassionate and impactful change-makers.

Ashinaga Africa Initiative Undergraduate Scholarship 2025 Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Have lost one or both parents.
  • Have completed secondary school and received the results of their national secondary school examination (technical and vocational degrees not accepted) within the last two years (any date after 1st August 2022, including all of 2023 and 2024), or will have completed secondary school and received final exam results before February 9th, 2024.
  • Be born after 1st September 2001.
  • Not have the means to attend university abroad without external financial support.
  • Be proficient in English, French, or Portuguese.
  • Be regularly ranked in the top 10% of their class during their last 2 or 3 years of secondary school.
  • Be able to participate in the two Ashinaga preparatory programs, over the course of one year, before attending university.
  • Be committed to returning home, or to Sub-Saharan Africa, and contributing to society in Sub-Saharan Africa after graduating from university.
  • Have no dependents who could interfere with academic progress.
  • Have a good enough health condition to be able to study abroad.

Ashinaga Africa Initiative Scholarship Duration and Reward

The Ashinaga (100-Year Vision) Scholarship provides a full scholarship that covers the cost of tuition, accommodation (during the terms and vacation), insurance, flight, and provides monthly stipend which covers food and necessary academic costs.

Required Documents for Ashinaga Africa Initiative Scholarship

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

  • A photo or scanned copy of at least one of the following documents:  Passport, National ID Card or Birth Certificate·
  • A copy of the death or disappearance certificate of the parent(s), or any alternative official document, bearing the name of the deceased, proving death or orphan status.
  • A photo or scanned copy of the last school report/transcript from your last year in high school (last quarter or semester, or the annual report).
  • A photo or scanned copy of the baccalaureate certificate or any other proof of completion of secondary studies (if applicable).
  • Grades obtained at university to date, if applicable.
