Program Goals
The DBU Scholarships focus on financing doctoral research that addresses critical issues in environmental protection and conservation. Eligibility Criteria
•Target Group:
Highly qualified early-career researchers conducting doctoral work that tackles relevant environmental or conservation challenges. Projects with international significance are welcome, provided the research is primarily conducted in Germany and includes a clear reference to the environmental context in Germany or global environmental challenges. Temporary research stays abroad during the doctoral program are supported and encouraged.
•Academic Requirements:
•A qualification for doctoral studies with an above-average degree (overall grade at least “good” or “very good”; for law, at least “fully satisfactory”).
•The doctoral program must be undertaken at a German university and should not have commenced yet. (Applications are ineligible if the candidate has been engaged with the doctoral topic for more than one year post-graduation.)
Program Details

Up to 50 scholarships awarded annually.
•Duration:
Maximum funding period of 3 years.
•Scholarship Value:
•Base stipend of 1,600 EUR/month for up to 3 years.
•Fixed monthly allowance of 210 EUR for research material expenses, with additional funds available for exceptional cases.
•Additional financial support for fellows with children, if needed.
